Red Light Therapy at Serendipity Wellness® with Tracy Richardson MSc.

 What is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, has been around for ages in the form of lasers… but you don’t need a laser to benefit for this! Tracy has been using Red Light Therapy for years to benefit her clients.

There is mounting evidence that red and near-infrared light spectrums have a biological impact on our bodies. Obviously the best place to get this from is sunlight, but most of us in the northern hemisphere don’t see enough of this, particularly through the winter months.

Red Light (620-850 nm) can penetrate through skin all the way to the cell mitochondria, deeper than other light spectrums. This allows the impact to work deeper into the cells, photons enter the blood stream. This helps boost the mitochondrial energy production, and building up the cells anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory defines systems.
The food you eat is converted into ATP for energy, but ATP production can also be stimulated by red and near-infrared exposure in your mitochondria. More ATP, means better performing mitochondria, better body and health!

When mitochondria absorbs red light, a cascade of processes causes release of nitric oxide, increase in ATP, and decrease in oxidative stress.

“The health of every organ and every cell in the body depends on the energy being produced by the mitochondria in those cells.”
— ~ Ari Whitten

How does this benefit you?

Treatment uses spectral light to activate the skin’s own biochemical healing processes. Red light decreases skin inflammation, smooths skin tone, repairs sun damage, fades scars and stretch marks, and even builds collagen in the skin, which reduces wrinkles.

  • Reduce pain and inflammation

  • Improve joint health- arthritis

  • Improve skin quality- rejuvenation & reduced stretch marks

  • Aids wound healing

  • Increase energy levels

  • Improve fertility

  • Enhanced circulation

  • Enhance thyroid health

  • Reduce blood pressure

  • Reduce depression

  • Stimulate hair growth

  • Increase cell formation, antioxidant activity, and energy production

  • Decrease body fat

  • Enhance brain function- cognitive performance.

Beneficial effects are experienced between 1 minute and 20 minutes, with no negative effect, depending upon the desired effect, determines the distance from the light and the time of the treatment.

Consistency is key to achieve the beneficial results.

Contraindications include pregnancy, epilepsy, diabetes, photo-allergy, medications that cause light sensitivity (such as Tetracycline), current steroid use/cortisone injections, so you should not receive light therapy.
